New homeowners sought to transform their dim, outdated residence into a luminous, cohesive sanctuary, eager to move away from the heavy golden oak flooring and dank cabinets that dominated the space. Their vision was to create a seamless design flow across the first floor, artfully enhancing the limited natural light to evoke a bright, airy ambiance. With five children and three energetic dogs, durability was paramount, requiring a rethink on flooring and finishes that could withstand daily wear while maintaining elegance. By incorporating cost-effective “let’s use what we have” attitude, we built custom-designed feature spaces—such as tailored built-ins, vibrant wall accents and a modern staircase—they stayed within a tight budget while infusing the home with the stunning, personalized "WOW" effect they craved.

The homeowners envisioned a refined industrial aesthetic, craving the raw edge of urban design tempered with a warm, inviting softness to avoid an overly stark vibe. To achieve this, we selected a soothing light bluish-gray as the primary wall color, its cool undertones creating a serene backdrop and held the natural light, punctuated by crisp pencil-point gray wall accents for depth and sophistication.

• For the flooring, we chose resilient gunstock-color vinyl, its rich, earthy hues offering durability to withstand the playful chaos of three dogs while exuding timeless charm.

• The dated golden oak balusters were reimagined, elegantly wrapped in boards painted a creamy Bit o’ Sugar hue, lending a fresh, modern contrast. We replaced the vertical white spindles with sleek, horizontal matte black piping, amplifying the industrial edge, and revitalized the stair tread with bold industrial matte black floor paint for a cohesive, grounded look.

• The tri-fold door hallway coat closet screamed 1990 so it was transformed into a striking functional feature space, adorned with crisp white shiplap to evoke a soft industrial charm. This design thread was artfully extended into the powder room, where the shiplap served as a captivating feature backsplash wall, elevated by the addition of refined crown molding for an upscale, polished touch.

• Throughout the home, we swapped the heavy six-panel golden oak doors for sleek, modern three-panel white doors, accented with sophisticated matte black door knobs and hinges, ensuring a harmonious blend of contemporary elegance and industrial grit.

The outdated kitchen, with its disjointed aesthetic, clashed with the home’s fresh color palette and gunstock-style vinyl flooring, feeling cramped and shadowy despite its practical layout for a bustling large family. With a budget that precluded a full renovation or cabinet replacement, we reimagined the space with artful ingenuity. To harmonize with the home’s soft industrial vibe, we refinished and painted the existing cabinets in a luminous Bit o’ Sugar white, instantly brightening the space and creating a clean, airy ambiance. The existing tiled backsplash was transformed with a bold industrial matte black finish, infusing striking depth and a modern edge that elevated the kitchen’s overall sophistication. Knowing the homeowners loved to entertain, we reenvisioned a non-functional desk nook into a sleek, masculine bourbon bar—a tailored Lifestyle Space for the man of the house, blending functionality with refined flair. To soften the industrial aesthetic with a touch of timeless elegance, we replaced the cabinet hardware with sparkling glass knobs, their delicate gleam adding a layer of classy refinement. Finally, the introduction of sleek matte black light fixtures brought a cohesive, stylish flourish, perfectly capturing the modern yet inviting atmosphere the homeowners craved.

At POSH, we revel in the art of transforming feature walls, reimagining the ordinary into breathtaking focal points that redefine a space. We invited the homeowner to select a captivating wall decoration to anchor the area above the fireplace, allowing us to craft a bespoke design around their vision. To infuse dynamic energy and visual intrigue, we adorned the back of the built-in cabinets with richly textured wallpaper, its tactile allure harmonizing with the sophisticated Pencil Point gray of the cabinets and walls, creating a cohesive and vibrant backdrop. By extending the creamy Bit o’ Sugar color scheme from the kitchen cabinets, we wove a seamless thread of elegance throughout the entire floor, fostering a sense of unity and warmth. The addition of sparkling glass knobs, echoing the kitchen’s refined aesthetic, ensured a fluid design flow, tying together the spaces with a touch of timeless sophistication and effortless continuity.
